# Small Claims Court

Small claims courts, usually referred to as "the people's court," involve claims that are 300k and less.

Small claims courts are informal and DO NOT require a lawyer. Each party can choose to represent themselves. During the trial, the plaintiff will go first, then the defendant.

Both parties will have the opportunity to present sworn testimony. During the trial, you are allowed to bring in evidence and witnesses to build your case. Please note that all submitted evidence, testimonies, and/or witness statements must stay within the guidelines of RP.

If you fail to appear at your given court date and time, it will result in a judgment being placed against you.

If the trial results in a judgment against you, you are responsible for paying your debt the same day.

If you won your case and need assistance with post-judgment collections, please contact a government official to intervene.

You cannot appeal a judge's decision in small claims court

There will be no sueing the city as there is not enough government to justify this.
